About the Foster Falls Fire Department

Protecting Our Community With Dedication and Courage

The Foster Falls Fire Department proudly serves a rural and resilient community spanning more than 70 square miles of rugged terrain in Tennessee. As a volunteer-driven organization, we are committed to safeguarding the lives and property of residents, businesses, and visitors within our district — and we stand ready to respond as a dependable resource for mutual and automatic aid throughout the region.

Our Response Area

  • Coverage Area: Over 70 square miles of mountainous and unincorporated territory
  • Population Served: Approximately 850+ homes and businesses
  • Hydrant Count: Only 19 fire hydrants strategically located throughout the district
  • Housing Profile: A large percentage of dwellings are mobile and manufactured homes, which are at higher risk for rapid fire spread due to construction and spacing
  • Critical Infrastructure: The district includes key assets such as the Enbridge natural gas pump station along the primary highway corridor — a facility requiring rapid, high-volume fire response capability in the event of an emergency

Our Mission
The Foster Falls Fire Department exists to protect our community through emergency response, fire prevention education, and cooperative support with our neighboring fire agencies. We are a 100% volunteer force, trained to national standards and ready to respond to a wide range of emergencies including:
  • Structure and residential fire suppression
  • Wildland and grass fire management
  • Vehicle extrication and rescue
  • Medical first response
  • Hazardous materials awareness
  • Community risk reduction and safety education

Operational Challenges
  • Limited water supply infrastructure: With only 19 hydrants serving a large geographic area, most fire responses require water shuttle operations or tanker-based delivery.
  • Extended response distances: Many parts of our district are remote, with travel distances that increase response times and reliance on self-sufficient apparatus.
  • Volunteer staffing variability: Our personnel are dedicated community members who balance emergency response with jobs, family, and other responsibilities across the region. This means apparatus readiness and staffing can vary throughout the day.

Our Commitment
Despite these challenges, Foster Falls Fire Department is unwavering in its mission to deliver efficient, professional, and compassionate fire and emergency services. Every call we answer reflects our dedication — whether it’s the first alarm of a structure fire, a motor vehicle accident on a rural roadway, or assisting a neighboring department through mutual aid. We are continually seeking ways to enhance our capabilities, including pursuing grants and partnerships that strengthen our response capacity, improve firefighter safety, and ensure the residents of Foster Falls and surrounding areas receive the protection they deserve.
